A Christmas Playlist To Beat The Holiday Blues
- By Barbara Ann
If you’ve ever found yourself in a bad place wondering where the years have gone or what to do in order to better the circumstances you find yourself in, you are not alone. I know for a fact that even the most successful and happy women have had days where all they wanted to do was hide under the covers. It happens. We get through it.
The worst thing an InLife Shero could possibly do is to let sadness and a lack of motivation fester. Leave an open wound undressed and it will worsen. Sweep feelings of unease under the rug and you’ll be surprised at just how quickly it can break the surface.
No one is perfect, and although we believe everyone is entitled to an “I’m Having A Bad Day” pass, there are steps we can take in order to ensure we keep the gloom at bay. For starters, this article on 8 ways to prioritize yourself should help put things into perspective.
Strengthen your faith
There’s something so comforting about entrusting everything to a higher power. When things start getting bleak and dreary and our faith and constitution are put to the test, sometimes all it takes is a solid moment with the big guy to give you the clarity and peace you’ve been yearning for.
Eat your way to wellness
Stuff yourself with nothing short of the good stuff! Start getting familiar with fresh fruits and leafy greens - momma wasn’t lying when she said they were good for you. Nourishing your body will help you look and feel your best. It’s not wise to scrimp on your health, so it’s high time you redefined your relationship with your midnight McDonald's delivery guy.
Exercise, not extra rice (but you do you!)
Not only does it get you looking mean and lean - it’s great for releasing happy hormones too! Get your blood pumping regularly and you’ll see a world of difference when it comes to your fitness and disposition. A lap around the village or making the most out of your lunch break with a decent walk can do wonders!
Take it slow
You don’t have to live life on the fast lane to feel the thrill of excitement all those movies keep spouting. On the contrary, it’s when you stop to smell the roses that you truly enjoy what life has to offer. Keeping yourself busy and productive is great. Resting and allowing yourself to slow done and pace yourself is also great. Slow and steady wins the race!
Learn something new
You CAN teach an old dog new tricks, and this goes for us InLife Sheroes too. Learning something new helps keep us sharp and eager to grow and hone our skills in areas we never knew existed. It’s a great way to keep your mind off things and to have fun. Does knitting ever tickle your fancy? Rock-climbing something you’ve always wanted to try? Go give it a go!
Figure out what hurts you and drop it
At some point, we’re going to have to stop circling back to the things that hurt us and move on. Acceptance is always the hardest part, and a lot of people make the mistake of trying to fast forward through the pain instead of really grieving and moving on properly. From one Shero to another, know that it’s okay to pause and hurt. We know you can get back up again and avoid making the same mistakes to continue onto the path of better, brighter things.
Understand that asking for help is okay
No one is going to remember you for the number of times you’ve had to seek help or lean on someone for support. People will remember you for the kind of person you are and how you lead your life. Don’t let pride get in the way of your growth. Asking for help and giving help in return is the secret to success and will allow you to de-stress and do better in any field. Scout’s honor!
#treatyoself
Every favorite hashtag! Truth be told, as sinful as it may sound, it’s actually a great way to practice self-care. We’re not saying it’s perfectly fine to spend your earnings on extravagant items often, but it is great to reward yourself every once in a while. You’ve worked hard, it’s time to reap what you sow.
Where you are right now and whatever it is you’re going through, know that your InLife Sheroes tribe is here to help you through it. Think something important didn’t make our list? Want to share your story? Drop us a comment!
