Achieving Mental Freedom
Mental freedom happens when you are free to think, feel, and act without constraint or interference from anyone else. It’s about having the power to choose your own thoughts, feelings, and actions. When you’ve achieved mental freedom, you are in control of your own life and able to live according to your own values and beliefs. Mental freedom can happen to everyone, but it is not always easy to achieve. It requires courage, strength, and perseverance. But if you are willing to fight for it, mental freedom is something that you can definitely achieve!
Tips on Achieving Mental Freedom
1. Keep a journal
Getting caught in our own thoughts can send us into a spiral of feeling hopeless. Oftentimes, life is better than what we think. Try jotting down your thoughts whenever you’re feeling overwhelmed. You can create a gratitude list to encourage you to find the positives in life.
2. Learn not to take things personally
An important lesson to learn is that not everything in life needs a reaction. Next time you’re feeling stressed out about something someone has said or done, try taking a deep breath and counting to 10.
3. Be aware of your thoughts and feelings
Pay attention to the voice in your head and the emotions that you feel. This will help you to identify any limiting beliefs or negative thought patterns that may be holding you back.
4. Challenge your thoughts and feelings
Once you are aware of any negative thoughts or emotions, it is important to challenge them. Are they really true? Do they serve you? Are there other ways of looking at the situation? Challenging your thoughts and emotions can help you to let go of them and move on.
5. Learn how to feel but not dwell
Emotions are a normal part of life. For instance, we may get a bad grade in school or get told off by our supervisor, causing us to feel upset or dejected. This is a perfectly human reaction. It’s important for you to learn how to welcome these emotions but not get stuck in them. So, feel whatever it is you need to feel: anger, sadness, joy, jealousy, etc. But don’t let it linger or stay too long that it controls how the rest of your day goes.
6. Find your own truth
Mental freedom is about being true to yourself. It is about living according to your own values and beliefs. This may mean making some changes in your life such as setting boundaries at work or in your personal life. But it is important to stay true to yourself and what you believe in.
7. Take action
Mental freedom is not something that you achieve overnight. It is a journey that requires effort and determination. But if you are willing to take action and keep moving forward, you will eventually reach your goal.
8. Be patient with yourself
It's important to remember that progress takes time. Mental freedom doesn’t happen overnight. There will likely be ups and downs along the way. But if you are gentle with yourself and keep moving forward, you will get there in the end.
9. Seek help
If things get too overwhelming, know that you can seek help. Reach out to a professional or join a group that offers counselling services such as CPPS Work or Empath PH.
Remember, it will take some time to achieve mental freedom. Rather than thinking of it as a destination, you can think of it as a journey. Small steps and changes make a big difference. Work every day at changing your way of thinking and you’ll start noticing its impact on your mental health.
