5 Mantras to Keep Your Heart Healthy
- By Angie Lim
The world has made great strides in achieving gender equality, but there is still work to be done. Many women around the world have shared their stories where they were not given the same opportunities to succeed. That's why it's so important to raise girls to be empowered, know their worth, and are not afraid to fight for what they believe in. So how can we do that? Here are some tips!
Encourage Her to Pursue Her Passions
It's so important for girls to know that they can pursue any career they want, regardless of societal norms or expectations! There are so many amazing opportunities out there, and young girls must understand that they can achieve anything they set their minds to.
If she loves sports, encourage her to join a team or partake in training programs. If she loves art, sign her up for classes or take her to the museum.
The sky's the limit! It's so important to instill a sense of confidence and self-belief in our young girls. They are the leaders of tomorrow, and we need to ensure that they have the skills and knowledge to succeed in whatever they choose to do.
Teach Her to be Assertive
Assertiveness is an important quality for everyone to possess, but it can be especially important for girls. Unfortunately, social norms often pressure girls to be quiet and shy, which can prevent them from speaking up for themselves or asserting their needs. This is why it's so important to teach girls how to be assertive in a healthy and positive way.
One way to do this is to encourage girls to express their feelings openly and honestly. This means letting them know that it is okay to be angry, sad, or scared, and teaching them how to express those emotions constructively.
You can also help girls learn how to stand up for themselves. This might mean role-playing different scenarios, such as asking a teacher for help with a difficult assignment or teaching them how to react when someone cuts ahead of them in line. Let them know they have a voice and that they are part of something bigger, especially when it comes to injustices happening in the world.
Teach Her the Importance of Resilience
In today's world, it's more important than ever for girls to be resilient. With the constant pressure to conform to society's standards of beauty and success, it's easy for girls to lose sight of their own worth. That's why it's so important to teach them the importance of resilience from a young age.
You can do this by sharing your own stories of overcoming adversity; this will not only show her that it's okay to make mistakes, but that it is also possible to recover from them. Don't forget to encourage her to pursue her passions fearlessly and remind her that failure is simply a part of life that should not be feared.
Remind Her That She is Loved
When a girl knows she is loved, she knows her worth and can stand confidently in her own power. When girls are loved, they understand their value and deserve to be treated with dignity and respect. However, too often girls are not taught this crucial lesson.
Society tells them their value lies in their physical appearance or compliance. Letting girls know they are loved teaches them that their worth is not dictated by anyone else, giving them the strength to challenge harmful social norms and discrimination. It also provides a foundation of self-love, allowing girls to show compassion for themselves as well as others.
Highlight Successful Women
As women, we all know the importance of having strong female role models as we navigate through life. Seeing other women thriving and succeeding in various fields helps us to believe that there are no limits to our own potential. That is why Sheroes is so passionate about giving inspiring women a platform where they can be seen and heard by more Filipinos. Each year, we grant an InLife Young Shero of the Year Award to young women leaders who are trailblazing their own paths and setting an example for others to follow. We hope that through these efforts, more girls will be encouraged to chase their dreams and achieve success in their own unique ways.
International Day of the Girl is a day to celebrate progress toward gender equality and empower girls everywhere. We can all play a part in making sure that every girl knows her worth and can succeed. By teaching them about their rights, respecting their opinions, and showing them that they are valued members of society, we can help them overcome any obstacle they face. Let's make this world a better place for girls—together!
